How Does DuoLingo Work?

Duolingo is a completely free and effective method of language training.

How does it work?:

Duolingo students practice their new language by translating webpages and documents that have been uploaded to the service. Once the document has been completely translated, the person who requested the translation pays for the service which eliminates the need for advertising and helps keep the language training free for students.

Does it work?

"An eight week study was independently conducted to assess the effectiveness of Duolingo as a language learning tool. The participants took one university placement Spanish language test at the beginning of the study and one at the end. The improvement of language abilities was measured as the difference between the initial and the final language test results."

The study estimated that a person with no knowledge of Spanish would need an average of 34 Duolingo Study hours of to cover the material of one semester of College Spanish.
